LRFC Community Rugby Project Partnership with West Mercia Police

This season Ledbury RFC have been involved with West Mercia police

for all the right reasons!  Police officers all over Herefordshire have been

given the opportunity to get involved with their local communities within

Primary Schools to assist Rugby Development Officers to deliver Tag Rugby. 

Ledbury RFC is at the forefront of this initiative having seen three community

officers assisting Bruce over the last five months.

Although this initiative is in its early days good groundwork has been made and

we look forward to West Mercia getting even more involved with the rugby club

and assist in delivering Tag Rugby to the community.

Vicky Turner who is the Youth inclusion officer further explains;

“This year has been the first year that the Tag Rugby project in West
Mercia Police has been run on such a large scale, with a big push for
Local Policing Teams across the force area to use tag rugby as a method
of engagement and breaking down barriers with young people. There has
been a natural link to community rugby initiatives that already take
place - your school programme for example.

Supporting the local tournaments taking place in the County is seen as
an integral part of this tag rugby project, culminating with the Tag To
Twickenham competition held at our Police HQ.

I am grateful to the support that you have extended out to the police
tag coaches around the South Herefordshire area and I am positive that
now my police colleagues have got to grips with the whole concept we
shall see an increased uptake in the police tag coaches taking a more
active part in supporting the delivery of tag rugby across the county of
Herefordshire in the primary schools. Wherever possible I will encourage
my police colleagues to link up with the local rugby initiatives that
are happening as well, so please keep me updated with your own school
programme.”
