Match report
LEDBURY SIMPLY TOO SLICK FOR HEREFORD
This fixture was originally scheduled to be played at Hereford but despite the torrential rain of the last few days the fixture was switched to Ross Road where for Hereford unfortunately the storm never let up !! as Ledbury Under 11s backed up there recent festival victory with an emphatic win at against a big Hereford side.
Playing some dynamic and ruthless rugby, Ledbury ran in eleven tries as they dominated there local rivals who were unable to cope with the sheer ferocity and intensity of the home side who continued there fine early season form.
Ledbury 73 - 0 Hereford
This was another full on performance , Hereford had some huge players in the forwards which certainly gave Ledbury a test up front but it was to be a test passed with flying colours.
Not only did the forwards get to grips with there opponents but they never gave them any time on the ball and disrupted and scrapped for every ball hitting and carrying with total commitment.
The hosts scored early to settle them , a great shove from the front five allowed Marriott time to offload to Prestwich who darted over to open the scoring , the flyhalf added the extras.
Ledbury moved the ball well and tested Herefords defence Skittery and Prosser carried deep into there opponents half and when the ball was secured by Hinkley , Best was on hand to feed Bandfield and the winger finished off a great team score.
Ledbury continued to dominate and Hinkley was a constant handful as the back row gave another huge carrying performance which gave his side good field position , Hemingway , Goodchap and Prosser all put in huge hits one of these hits caused a knock on and Hinkley snaffled the ball to score , prestwich added the extras.
Ledbury made some changes and this unsettled the side for a few minutes, Bennion and Goodchap carried well and the visitors were stretched fully defensively as the hosts swarmed all over there opponents.
Prosser and Peters marshaled the flanks admirably and Ledburys line was quick and effective in both attack and defence.
Ledburys domination continued and when Hemingway and Scott took the ball on deep into Herefords half fellow forward Bennion collected at the base to pick and go and touch down.
From the restart Good hands from Best and Prestwich in midfield allowed Harris time to move the ball , Bennion carried into contact and with Scott and Rayner driving the maul on Hemingway peeled off the back to touch down , Prestwich added the extras.
Prestwich and Harris played some great attacking rugby both making probing runs deep into there opponents half .
With both the forwards and backs turning on the style, hereford were unable to get any possession or territory and when Bennion scored again and Skittery added from the boot to bring the score to 47 - nil the game was well and truly beyond them.
Hereford to there credit however managed to apply some pressure of there own and tested Ledburys defence who despite being forty points ahead they still tackled and defended there line as if they were all square.
Herefords heads certainly and not surprisingly went down as despite all there efforts they could not get through a very well organised Ledbury line.
The difference between the sides on the day was evident when the hosts turned defence into attack as Hinkley carried aggressively , his off load to Prestwich , several phases of passes later, Evans collected and jinked through a tiring defence to score and the winger was to get a quick second following good interplay by Hinkley and Marriott.
Skittery and Goulding made good hits and were solid in both defence and attack , with the game in its latter stages Hinkley again carried hard and was rewarded for his efforts with a second try , which fly half Prestwich converted.
From the restart Marriott fielded well and got ledbury going forward , Goodchap and Bennion carried into contact close to the Hereford line and to the visitors credit they turned over the hosts but poor hands from the visitors and great pressure from the hosts saw a loose pass thrown and Bandfield reacted quickest to dive on the bouncing ball , Prestwich added another kick and bring the game to a close with the hosts totally dominant and thoroughly deserved there victory .
Try Scorers Prestwich , Bandfield x 2 , Marriott , Hinkley x 2 , Bennion x 2 , Hemingway and Evans x 2
