NO LUCK FOR LUCS AS LEDBURY GO ON THE RAMPAGE
Ledbury under 11s continued there good form , comprehensively dispatching a spirited Luctonians side who were unable to cope with the sheer power and movement of an improving Ledbury squad who not only kept another clean sheet but also ran in 15 tries in a one sided affair at Ross Road.
Ledbury 75 - 0 Luctonians
On a cold morning and despite the final score, it did take a while for both sides to settle with early handling errors making the game a little dis-jointed.
But it wasn't long before Ledburys forwards took the game to there opponents and started to get over the gain line.
The pack was solid and totally dominated and the first score soon came when following good play in midfield from Bennion and great interplay between Prestwich and Evans which created the space for Bandfield to go over and open the scoring.
Luctonians to there credit tackled and competed well but were getting out muscled at the breakdown and were unable to get there hands on the ball. The next score again courtesy of a fine scrum saw Marriott collect at the base and dart blindside from 5 metres out and touch down.
Ledbury continued to cause the visitors problems and gave them no time to settle on the ball Hinkley , Scott and Bennion smothered there opposite numbers and stole lots of ball , with so much ball being won the backs had the freedom to express themselves and when Marriot fed Hinkley his run and clever off load to Best who carried hard and offloaded to Prestwich who ran a lovely line to score.
Skittery , Evans and Marriot were busy and worked hard in both attack and defence this effort would bring the team more reward when Bennion scored twice in quick succession following super work from Hinkley.
Ledbury also showed what they could do with ball in hand as it was shifted well at pace and when it found its way to winger Best he would not be denied depsite the visitors best efforts.
With Luctonians being forced to defend constantly and unable to get any type of field position Ledbury turned up the heat Prestwich went on a mazy run and offloaded to Hemingway who was high tackled just short of the visitors line. from the quick tap it was Hemingway who made amends powering through the Lucs defence to touch down.
Hemingway soon got his name on the score sheet again following a great forward effort from Scott and Rayner to keep the ball held up and safe for the prop to peel off the maul.
Both sides used rolling substitutes but this didn't seem to affect the hosts to much as with the visitors understandably tiring, Ledbury put them to the sword and showed the ruthless streak that they have developed in recent months , Several good phases of play put the hosts into the heart of the visitors half and when back row Hinkley collected the ball from Marriott he would not be denied and touched down.
From the restart Marriott collected and fed Goodchap who exploded into life and went on a confident run to score in the far corner despite Lucs best attempts to stop him.
The next score was a super team effort again with the restart ball collected safely Ledburys Marriot evaded tackles to feed Prosser who powered his way up field and offloaded to Prestwich who picked a super line to score his second.
Ledburys Prosser continued to impress making powerful runs and showing great strength he took the hosts into the lucs half , Best and Evans linked well in midfield before the later dodged his way past desperate cover to score another good try.
Evans with a taste for it now should some fine individual skill collecting the restart and going on an arcing run and out sprinting the defenders to touch down.
It was raining tries but still Ledbury were not done with a disciplined defence and an attack scoring at will it was to there credit that they fashioned another great team try with 8 or 9 players involved taking the ball from one end to the other .
Bennion and Hemingway protected the ball , Goodchap took it up and fed Hinkley who straightened his run , Prosser took the offload and then Skittery and Evans linked well always going forward and with the Lucs defence scrambling back Prosser collected at pace and slid over to score his second.
With the game reaching its last moments Ledbury refused to let there opponents off the hook and continued to play at a furious pace .
From the restart Prestwich made a super individual break , Marriot in support collected the offload and fed Best who linked up with Hinkley and Rayner , Whiles fed Bennion who took the ball to ground a metre short ,
Ledbury showed great patience and organised there line but the forwards kept it tight and when back row Scott powered through a pile of bodies to touch down the game was well and truly over.
Ledbury continue to show a huge desire when both defending and in attack regardless of the scoreline and never gave Luctionians a sniff to record another fine victory.
Lets hope the next 6 months of 2010 will be as successful as the last 3 months of 2009 have been , on this showing there is no reason to think it wont be ! ... Well done to all those involved on and off the park.
