Camp Hill U15`s 0 : Ledbury U15`s 36
Ledbury U 15`s trip to Birmingham to play their North Midlands Plate match against Camp Hill on Sunday turned out to be an excellent use of carbon. The climate change defying weather of January and February had constrained Ledbury`s sporting activity to a few trots around the training paddock so when they finally took to the field, they unleashed their frustration on the home side. The pack played as if possessed, with Jonty Cutter,Douglas Bryant and Robbie Matheson rampaging at will, goaded on by human dynamo Connor Barber-Starkey at scrum half.
The intent and vibrancy of the pack was matched by superb handling and running in the backs to put Bryn Edwards over in the corner to open the scoring.
Mike Jeffryes` pack was immense with Pete Dixon and John Gurney dominating exchanges at the coal face and setting up Anthony Chung to crash over under the posts to keep the score board flicking over.
Dave Nash gave a superb display of passing and putting his runners into space and was able to have a gallop of his own as well, slowing only to sell an outrageous dummy, bordering on fraud, before touching down himself which Danial Fletcher slotted over by way of a conversion.
In the second half, Ledbury`s impact players of Alex Jackman, Luke Johnson and Tim Owen came on to keep the momentum rolling and it wasn`t long before Jonny Bray, who seemed to have a hand in everything, smashed his way over for a try. The conversion was popped over by the hugely talented Gabriel Warwick with all the nonchalance of a golf pro chipping onto the green.
The pack was not finished as good approach work by Will English, Conor Howard and James Limbrick set up the chance for Anthony Chung to wrestle his way over for his second after a monstrous run that displayed the full range from ballet to sumo including a dummy kick of all things.
The last quarter was lit up by the sniping runs into heavy traffic from the base of the scrum by Will Barber-Starkey who made good headway, much like a trout swimming upstream
A great passing game from Dave Nash,Gabriel Warwick and Josh Henson gave wings Jake Harkness and Bryn Edwards plenty of chance to show their silky skills, with Bryn managing to showboat over for his second in the dying moments of the game.
After the game, coach Alan Dixon congratulated the boys for truly playing and communicating as a team and awarded popular Anthony Chung the Man of the Match award for a game as flamboyant as his hair.
One other player that merits a mention in dispatches was the Camp Hill fullback who put in hit after hit and performed try saving tackles on numerous occasions.
