Ledbury U15`s 19 Malvern U15`s 17
Ledbury U15`s survived a close encounter with Malvern U15`s to secure a narrow win at home on Sunday.
Malvern were organised, disciplined and determined to take Ledbury`s scalp. Ledbury provided early pressure but could not get a touchdown and it was Malvern who scored first with a well worked try after hitting the contact area and making ground with legs pumping and sinews astretch.
Ledbury now knew they had work to do and Mike Jeffryes galvanised the pack for a roar Upfield with Pete Dixon, Jonty Cutter and James Limbrick on the charge. A well directed pass from Will Barber-Starkey found Dave Nash who needed no second invitation to rip through the Malvern backs and dump the ball down between the posts for a try.
Malvern kicked off the second half 10 -7 in front, but Joe Critchard, boiling over with frustration grabbed hold of the game and single handedly forced the ball up field and over the line for Ledbury`s second, which he duly converted.
Ledbury again found themselves in a promising position when they were awarded a scrum 15 metres from the Malvern try line. From here the pack pushed forward with Connor Howard and Jonny Bray providing the grunt for Will English to pick up in a classic number eight move and drive himself over the line.
Malvern were not beaten and struck back with a superb try of their own, but superb tackling by Tim Owen, Dougie Bryant, Luke Johnson and Bryn Edwards, meant Ledbury held fast for victory at the final whistle.
