Ledbury U15`s 0 : Luctonians U15`s 5
Ledbury U 15`s home jinx continued on Sunday when they lost out to their Luctonian counterparts at Ross Road in a game that they could have and should have won given the rich array of talent with which they took to the field.
The main feature of the game was the deliration of the weather into a thorough drenching for players and fans alike.
Mike Jeffryes and his band of forwards battled hard in the loose with jackal-like Jonty Cutter and abrasive Jonny Bray as dynamic as ever and Will English having a few thrust full drives at the opposition. Alex Jackman continued his elevation towards awesome as he relished the crash ball and leapt like a salmon in the line out, only a high body angle stopped him bursting through the Luctonian ranks like a runaway shed.
Behind the pack an all Barber-Starkey affair of digger Will in the first half and aggressive Connor in the second juggled and flung out the wet ball from the scrum like a bar of soap from a bucket to the eager hands of David Nash at fly half.
The backs were unable to touch the ball down despite some gritty stuff from Joe Crichard and a couple of great sprints from Gabriel Warwick. Indeed Warwick might have thought he had got a penalty try in the second half as having hacked the ball half the length of the pitch, was felled without the ball like a fleeing bank robber as he poised to pounce on the booty over the try line.
When the final whistle was blown, Luctonians were the victors with the only score of the game, a kick and chase which they won by a whisker.
Some welcome old faces were in attendance with Jon Gurney reminding the team what they have missed and injured players Robbie Matheson and Jake Harkness along to support their team mates.
