09 Feb 08
Southam RFC 6 Ledbury RFC 17

Ledbury continued their winning run as they over came a strong Southam outfit on Saturday.  In a game that was very even for the eighty minutes the Ledbury men showed dogged determination and stout defence to keep out a very experienced Southam side.

Ledbury made the breakthrough on fifteen minutes when James Handley picked up and loose ball and darted through the defence to score, Luke White missed the conversion.  Ten minutes later White added a penalty to take the score to eight points to nil.  Southam came back into the game and through good work from their forwards started to pressurise the Ledbury defence, they were rewarded with two penalty goals before half.  Half time score 6 – 8.

The second half saw minimal chances from both teams until Bruce Ruthven dropped a goal from thirty metres out to give the visiting team a 6 - 11 lead.  Luke White then punished Southam with a further two penalties. The final ten minutes saw Southam deep into The Ledbury half exerting huge pressure but the Ledbury team held out with some fine defensive work.

Ledbury now sit top of Midlands 4 West (South) and travel away top Leicester Vipers next week in the 2nd Round of the National Vase competition,.
